Catching the creative cycle

Whenever I feel a lack of energy, from being drained by instances in life or for no reason at all, I no longer fight it and go with it. In a recent time of replenishment I reflected on the creative process. We need time for our minds to play, without distractions. Even with no thought, through meditation, it creates space for new ideas to germinate.

For me the creative process seems to emerge like this:

  • rest
  • space – listening to the universe
  • nourishment (food for the body, readings and viewing others art for the mind)
  • germination of the seeds of new ideas
  • play (trying new techniques)
  • action
  • Or reforming, breaking, blending
  • capturing – via photography
  • display – website, social media
  • absorption and/or action from feedback
  • rest
Catch

This piece has been germinating a while. It was created as a pair of wings at first and then emerged, after reforming, as a hair-like form with hooks. Hooks have kept cropping up. I have an enamel brooch in the shape of an umbrella and the hook of the brolley has started to swivel and catch onto things (it’s worn on the hip of my jeans. Hence the hooks in the hair, ready to catch and latch onto things.
